Rocastle Remembered does it again!

Thats just over a day more than the team record set just two weeks ago. A big hand for all those involved.

For those that don't know, the the Grid.org (formerly United Devices) Cancer Research project is a distributed computing system, where simply by downloading the program you can safely and easily contribute your PC's idle time and spare power to performing the billions of chemical calculations needed to screen molecules that have been identified as having potential in cancer treatment. The computing power made available by individuals and companies running this programme on normal PC's is phenomenal, the only other way to get these vital calculations done would be to buy a lot of very expensive time on one of the worlds biggest supercomputers. When you've downloaded the program you can join the David Rocastle Remembered team and add your results to our attempt to honour the memory of an Arsenal legend who was sadly struck down by cancer at the age of just 33.

The team is really crunching out the results at the moment, in the last fortnight we've topped 70 days CPU time per day on no less than 6 occasions (just a month ago any of these would have easily broken the team record) and dropped below 50 days CPU time per day just twice. In just two weeks we've donated 2½ years of CPU time to the project, at an average of 65 days per day.

To all current members - thanks again, and get recruiting! Tell your friends (especially those of you that have contacts with Man City, Chelsea, Leeds, Norwich and Hull fans - Rocastle's other clubs), include the link to grid.org (see below) in your email signature, spread the word on football message boards, whatever it takes!

To all prospective members - join us, we welcome new members!

Finally, some of you have asked me about some of the other projects that grid.org runs - especially the smallpox research project. When grid.org introduced the smallpox project some technical glitches (since cured, they assure me) lead to members who signed up for cancer research processing smallpox research calculations. The smallpox project was intended to be an optional secondary task to the cancer project. If you mistakenly received smallpox tasks you didn't want then make sure your device profile settings on the website don't have the smallpox project checked.
