Grid.org are a profit making organisation, who sell their services to various researchers. The cancer research is being carried out as academic research which will be published in the relevant journals. Team members who wish to participate only in cancer research should make sure they carry out the following steps:
First set your options to only doing cancer research as follows:
1). Connect to the internet.
2). From the UD screen go to 'View your device list'.
3). When you get there go to 'My device manager'
4). Under 'Profile Name' you click on 'Default'
5). Then you have to scroll down past 'My device manager' and 'My computing
schedule' to 'Thank you for volunteering your PC!' and then untick PatriotGrid.
If you are currently doing a smallpox task then you can "dump" the task by
using the Windows task manager i.e. press CTRL, ALT and DELETE simultaneously. There should be two programs with UD in their name that you
can see running - one of them includes the batch number of the task you are currently crunching. Highlight the batch numbered task and click on "End task" then it's dumped and you will get a new task from the server (according to an FAQ I read).
Remember to have set your options to cancer only before you do this though!
