"Every team has it's half and Tottenham started very well. There was nervousness and a lack of initiative when we had the ball in a game we couldn't afford to lose.
"But I didn't leave Pires out of the starting line-up because of what happened last week. When you pick a team you don't look at the history of the club or you will play 60-year-old players who have scored goals.
"Overall we came back from a goal down and it is great credit to the team.
"The team realised we needed to do more and if we had not come out with a different attitude, we were in danger. "The fact that I did not start with Robert Pires today was not linked to last week's penalty. When the team lacks a bit of confidence away from home you need to be a bit more solid and I adapted for that approach."
