Wenger explains why he dropped Lehmann

He gave his reasons following the game, in which stand-in keeper Manuel Almunia kept a clean sheet despite one scare when the ball slipped from his grasp inches from the goal line.

He said:

"I made this decision for today and then I'll make another one for Tuesday. It's a very difficult situation to come in like that, but I feel that Manuel Almunia has a great potential and that will come out by playing.

"I have a great respect for Jens Lehmann though and he's a 100% professional. I have never had a problem with him, I just felt that he needed a breather. The fact we kept a clean sheet is down to the quality and concentration of our team defending and Jens would have had a clean sheet as well.

"But it's good for the morale of the team and the keeper that he didn't concede a goal when he came in."
