It's that time of year and the 3rd round of The FA Cup is once again upon us. We'll all be hoping the minnows of English football, the Harrogate Towns and the Hasting United's can battle their way through their opposition and progress to that fabled next round. The FA Cup has a rich heritage of unlikely matches and results and long may it continue.
We have to take our hats off to these two teams, venturing into the unknown as they look to make history and with uncertainty over the format of the big European competitions there could soon be places available in the Champions League, an extra incentive for these smaller clubs.
The FA cup is a financial lifeline for some clubs struggling in the lower leagues. Making it to the 3rd round where potential money spinning ties against the top Premier League teams can help stave off the threat of administration.
So let's hope these underdog teams can keep progressing into the latter stages, to pit their wits against the seasoned pro's and restore some of that FA Cup magic that some may say has been tarnished as of late.
