Wenger has been in the market for some time for a top class striker to take the weight of responsibility from Olivier Giroud, and throughout the pre-season was linked to Wayne Rooney, Luis Suarez, and Gonzalo Higuain, just to name a few.
Lewandowski is due to start for Poland against England in a game which is a must win for Roy Hodgson's men, and would relish the chance to show his skills against players who, given he's expressed a desire to play in the Premier League, he may well end up playing alongside in a couple of months time.
After Arsenal's capturing of Mesut Ozil, the marquee signing Gunners fans had been baying for, expectations are high for another acquisition. Riding high at the top of the table is all very well, but should an injury strike down Giroud, Nicklas Bendtner, although scoring twice again for Denmark and maintaining an excellent scoring record for his country, is unlikely to be the fall-back man Wenger wants to trust his title challenge with. Consensus for the last 6 months seems to be that, while Arsenal's attack from midfield is an abundance of riches, an out an out striker is a must if they are to be a force in all competitions.
With money to spend, and Lewandowski available, it would be foolish for Arsene to not at least consider a man who seems to tick all the boxes and would be viewed as another statement of intent by all of the teams around Arsenal who still perceive them as fragile in what could prove to be a very long season.
