Arsenal forward Katie McCabe has signed a new long-term contract with the Gunners that will see the Republic of Ireland international stay at the club for the foreseeable future.
McCabe has already been at Arsenal since 2015, having joined from Irish club Shelbourne shortly after turning 20, and has won both the FA Cup and Women’s Super League.
This season, McCabe has helped the Gunners see off the challenge of Manchester United to finish third in the WSL and secure Champions League football next season. The 25-year-old has appeared in all but one of Arsenal’s WSL games in 2020/21 and jointly leads the league in assists, with 11 to her name. She has also scored four goals of her own.
“I love this club and I feel like we’re in a really good place and that we’re ready to push on. I’m delighted it got done and now I’m ready to kick on and help this club win more trophies,” McCabe told Arsenal.com.
“It’s been amazing ever since I joined the club. There’s been ups and downs along the way, but I feel like I’m in a really good place with the team that we’ve got, the players we’ve got and all the staff behind the scenes. I’m really happy to commit my future.”
Arsenal manager Joe Montemurro said, “Katie McCabe is one of the highlights of the last three or four years here. It’s been a project which has been an exciting one.
“She’s been thrown every challenge from the day that we brought her back from her loan, and I think she’s just developed into a world-class left-sided player. All credit to her, she personifies exactly what we want from our squad.”
Arsenal will finish the 2020/21 season with a home game against Aston Villa on Sunday 9 May, which will be Montemurro’s last in charge as he prepares to step down.
