How Arsenal Could Capitalise If Madrid Sign Bale

Last updated : 22 August 2013 By DSG

Its been the story of the summer, Real Madrids lengthy pursuit of Tottenham Hotspurs Gareth Bale. It seems inevitable that the Welshman will get his move to the Galacticos, manager Andre Villas Boas seems to be preparing for life after Bale. Anzhi's Willian will be the ex-Chelsea managers fifth summer signing and will bring Tottenhams spending to near the ?100million mark.

Madrid has spent ?64million so far this summer, notably making big money swoops for Real Sociedads Asier Illaramendi and Malaga's Isco, but they have shifted out players to balance the books, Gonzalo Higuian most notably to Napoli. Real Madrid have re-couped over ?57million in sales.

Madrid have money to burn but the signing of Bale will put them over ?100million in the red, and Arsenal can capitalise by making swoops for two of their influental players; as Madrid will look to recoup some of the millions spent on bringing the Welsh Wizard to the Bernabau.

BBC Sport are reporting that Arsenal are prepared to make a double swoop for Karim Benzema and Angel Di Maria.

The Gunners faithful have been crying out for marquee signings and the Madrid pair certainly fits the bill perfectly.

Frenchman Benzema would cost around ?40million, he would give the Gunners serious firepower up front, and what a mouthwatering prospect he would be with Theo Walcott and Di Maria on the wings.

Di Maria plays on the right-wing for Real Madrid but is left-footed and is a natural left winger. As Lukas Podolskis Arsenal future looks uncertain, and Argentinian Di Maria would be a world-class replacement for the misfiring German.

Arsenal have had a mixed start to the season, falling to an embarrassing 3-1 home defeat in their first league encounter against Aston Villa. But they were impressive in the Champions League play off last night, beating Fenerbache 3-0 in Turkey last night.
