The headline on the BBC website screams "Bergkamp fury at Arsenal offer", however substituting "Bergkamp" for "Jansen" might make the headline a little more accurate.
Jansen has said: "The contract Arsenal have offered Dennis is too embarrassing for words. I am not going to make public the amount of money involved, but I want to say that this is not the way to deal with people.
He goes on to say: "I still intend to get a good outcome from this situation but we are disappointed with the way Arsenal have behaved."
So far, Dennis has made no comment regarding the renewal of his contract, except to say that he wants to finish his career at the club.
Naturally, Jansen is trying to negotiate the best deal possible - after all he's on a percentage - but quite why he feels he has to spout all of this crap to the media is anyone's guess. Does he think that what's written in the papers will have some sort of bearing on proceedings?
From the club's point of view, they are no doubt trying to juggle a limited transfer/wages kitty whilst bringing in some fresh blood and trying to keep existing players happy - no mean feat. I'm sure that Dennis is prepared to take a pay cut, but just how much of a reduction remains to be seen.
Personally, I hope that they do reach some sort of positive agreement soon. it will be a terrible shame if the fans don't get the opportunity to see him in an Arsenal shirt again.
