Whats gives?
Carlo Cudicini - Red card for violent conduct. The F.A. decide that the red card was punishment enough, so no three game ban. This despite the fact that the F.A.'s own rules (see below) clearly state that a three game ban is the mandatory punishment in such cases.
Ashley Cole - Yellow card for swearing - two match ban, and two grand fine.
I recall that Dennis Bergkamp was sent off last season against Liverpool for violent conduct, was banned for three games, and the appeal was refused due to the fact that there is no appeal allowed in cases of violent conduct.
You couldn't make it up - the F.A. are showing gross incompetence in this case, and are answerable to nobody.
Disgraceful.
PLAYERS SENT OFF UNDER LAW 12 (1), (2) and (3)
A player who is dismissed from the Field of play for Violent Conduct, Serious Foul Play or spitting at an opponent or any other person whether he has previously been cautioned in the match or not, will be suspended automatically from F.A. Premier League, Football League Cup, F.A. Challenge Cup matches and all Non First Team Matches commencing on the 14th day following the match in which he was sent off and until such time as his Club's recognised Senior Team has completed three (3) matches in approved Competitions during the period covered by its opening match in The Football Association Premier League and ending with the final match in which the Club is playing in a domestic Competition organised by The Football Association or The Football Association Premier League.
