Charlton Athletic v Arsenal - Player Ratings

Last updated : 29 December 2005 By Mike Bohndiek
Early half chances came and went for both sides early on, before Freddie had a great opportunity to give us the lead when he ran clear. Unfortunately, indecision set in and he couldn't pick out a corner of the net, instead he hit it straight at the keeper.

Charlton offered little throughout and it was no surprise when we took the lead through Jose Reyes after Henry had twice been denied. A well taken goal which capped a fine personal display for the Spaniard, who will hopefully continue that sort of form into the new year.

Further classic passing movements saw us with create a few more presentable chances, but having failed to take them the score remained at one nil, but more importantly we had secured three points on the road!

Jens Lehmann (6) Rarely troubled as Charlton posed no real attacking threat.

Pascal Cygan (5) At times he actually looked like a defender, but on the most part it was a standard Cygan performance.

Sol Campbell (7) He made a crucial tackle when Bent went clear late on in the first half, and a solid display all round.

Kolo Toure (7) Snuffed out any possible threats.

Lauren (6) Did well getting forward and wasn't troubled at the back.

Jose Reyes (8) After an average first half he sprung into life in the second. He looked like a totally different player and his tracking back was appreciated with Cygan behind him.

Gilberto (6) His standard display.

Cesc Fabregas (5) Another disappointing display by his standards. He lost the ball too often and too easily.

Alexander Hleb (6) Better than Doncaster, but still not at the level you would expect.

Freddie Ljungberg (6) I'm not a big fan of him player as a second striker, but he turned in a good display.

Thierry Henry (7) Upped his game in the second half. Could that have something to do with Reyes returning to form I wonder?

Subs:

Mathieu Flamini (5) Could have scored and linked up attacking play.

Robert Pires (6) Set up two chances and could have scored himself.
