Birmingham away game - Fancy dress is here again!

Last updated : 05 May 2005 By Ben Dimech

.... Nope - It's a six foot gorilla beating the sh*t out of a Manc horse! It can only mean one thing - fancy dress is here again! If you were one of the 150 Gooners who went in fancy dress to last season's Fancy Fulham at Loftus Road, you certainly won't need encouragement to join us at Fancy Brum for the last away game of this season. The joyous sight of biker chicks, Aladdins and funky chickens brings a poignant tear to my eye as I reminisce on the drink-fuelled carnival (carnage?) of a year ago!

Costumes were amazingly diverse last year as you can see from this link. below

We're bound to top it this year with more publicity on fan sites and support from the Travel Club so what will you go as? A character from a comedy sketch? An escaped zoo animal? There's no limit to what's out there so let your imagination run wild!

So what's the deal then? REDaction, in association with the club, has laid on a dedicated double-decker coach for Fancy Brum that will leave Highbury at 9:30a.m. on Sunday 15th. May with 70 places available so first come, first served and you must be in fancy dress to board! We will open up the North Bank Lower concourse so we can get changed before we set off in consideration of those who don't want to be dressed up as Jimmy Saville on the Piccadilly Line! As always, there's strictly no alcohol allowed on board but there will be a two hour "refreshment stop" at the half way point where we hope to have a kick-about in the sunshine and a few pick-me-ups to get all the Santas, Ali Gs, Snow Whites and Musketeers in the party mood! As last year, our coach allocation of 70 will be given seats together at St. Andrews and probably half way back in the stand behind the goal.

We're aiming for even more fancy dressers this year so those who don't make the double-decker coach, don't fear as you won't be alone! There'll be fans from supporters clubs, fanzine publications and independent groups setting down in their own way to meet us all there!

Match tickets for the Birmingham match are £42 adults (tell me about it!) and £21 for under 16's and over 65's. Coach tickets are priced at a much more reasonable £18 adults and £13 concessions. If paying by cheque, please send two separate cheques (one for match tickets, one for coach travel) to: Sue Campbell, Arsenal Travel Club, Avenell Road, London N5 1BU and specify you want to be on the "Fancy Brum coach". Applications must be in by Tuesday 19th April so applications received after that will not be guaranteed a match ticket or coach ticket. All applicants must be either a Gold, Silver or Red club member.

So what are you going as then?
