Seven years ago Arsene Wenger arrived at Arsenal Football Club in North London to a welcome that ranged from the reticent to the downright rude. But today the quietly spoken Frenchman is the only non-British manager to win the Premiership and his methods are credited with modernising the English game.

Amy Lawrence talks to the publicity-shy Highbury manager about the rise to the top from his early days on his village football team in Alsace Lorraine: "I didn't think I was a good enough player to make a living in the game and I didn't think I could become a football coach."
