Arsenal v Ajax - Player Ratings

Last updated : 08 December 2005 By Mike Bohndiek
Both sides started brightly, before Ajax assumed some control of the game. Our midfield were being slightly over run but the balance in play we adjusted before half time. The clearest chance of the game fell to Henry in the shape of a penalty after Reyes had been brought down deep into stoppage time. Henry stepped up and placed it an inch the wrong side of the post.

The second half was a fairly dull event, with neither side looking like pushing on for the win. Van Persie came on for the injured Reyes, and looked hungry for a goal, and so nearly got it when he burst past four defenders but just couldn't put it past the keeper.

The best moment of the night by far was the announcement that Manchester United had failed to make it into any form of European competition!!

Manuel Almunia (6) Nearly gifted them a goal with a huge error late in the half.

Lauren (6) Finally we saw Cygan removed from the team! What a relief it was to see the hard tackling "Ralphie" installed there.

Philippe Senderos (7) Only one mistake made all night which went unpunished.

Kolo Toure (7) Back to his best, with good clearances, headers and stormed forward.

Emmanuel Eboue (5) Not the game he would have wanted to have had. Some poor passing let him down.

Jose Reyes (6) Won the penalty, but was taken off injured. He is certain to miss Newcastle.

Alexander Hleb (6) Back from injury, and did look half a yard off the pace at times, but his accurate passing made up for this.

Mathieu Flamini (5) We were treated to his headless chicken impression again.

Sebastian Larsson (5) Struggled to find his feet at first, but did grow into the game, and with a few more chances in the first team he could be breaking through soon.

Quincy (5) He showed just how far away from the first team he is. Lost the ball, tried to many flicks when a simple pass was the better option, and couldn't find range with his passes.

Thierry Henry (6) A fairly quiet game, with the penalty miss his only real chance.

Subs:

Robin Van Persie (6) Unlucky not to have scored.

Cesc Fabregas (6) Slotted into the middle to give us strength..

Kerrea Gilbert (6) Another option that is better than playing Cygan at left back!
