The Gunners have stepped up their interest in Zaha ? after chasing him since his rise to prominence in a Crystal Palace shirt last season ? according to the The Mirror.
Arsene Wenger sent chief scout Steve Rowely to Crystal Palace's game against Leicester ? although the forwards form has also brought interest from Tottenham, Manchester City and Chelsea.
Palace managed to hold onto Zaha last summer, but are likely to receive more interest for the England U21 international when the transfer window opens in January. The departure of Dougie Freedman will also leave questions on Palace's stance ? although the owners of Palace are keen to hold on to their most prized asset ? after insisting earlier this month that Zaha is not for sale.
Co-Chairman Steve Parish said ? 'He is an extraordinary talent ? it would take ?20million before we even got interested.'
Theo Walcott and Alex Oxlade Chamberlain both moved to North London at 16 and 18 years of age respectively ? and have both gone on to play for England successfully. Zaha may see this as an attractive proposition working with Arsene Wenger, who is known for getting the best out of young players.
Although Manchester City and Chelsea appear keen on Zaha ? it is evident that Zaha will struggle for first team action. Whereas at The Emirates, Zaha would have the potential to be fighting for a starting place with the likes of Walcott and Chamberlain ? although Walcotts future is in serious doubt.
If Crystal Palace manage to hold out for ?20million ? it will be Arsenal's record signing. For a 19 year old this may sound risky for Gunners fans ? although Wenger and Arsenal will no doubt ensure they can sign the winger for a fee closer to ?12million with future add on's inserted ? similar with the transfers of Theo Walcott and Alex Oxlade Chamberlain.
