Yes, it?s true! Arsenal and Bristol Academy will compete in this season?s finals in Doncaster on May 26th. Well, it is not exactly Arsene Wenger?s men who will be fighting it out against Bristol but it will be Shelly Kerr?s Arsenal Ladies who had beaten Liverpool in the semi-finals to book a place at Doncaster! The match is a repeat of the 2011 FA Cup Finals and Arsenal has a great chance to add a 12th FA Cup to their silverware.
The Gunners endured a painful loss in the Women?s Champions League semifinals at the hands of, guess what, a German team ? Wolfsburg, and they have rebounded from that loss with a fine performance at Anfield in the FA Cup semis. The club has also reached the semifinals of the Continental Cup which is contested among the eight Super League teams.
With the team?s midfielder Kim Little winning the Women?s Player of the Year award too, there is extra motivation going against Bristol who currently lead the FA Women?s Super League with three wins out of three games. Arsenal, on the contrary, has a solitary point from their campaign, courtesy of a 1-1 draw against Lincoln and a 0-4 thrashing by Liverpool at home.
As the Arsenal Ladies look to add another title and continue to be the most successful women?s football club in the country, it makes me wonder when the men?s team will start winning trophies again and come close to a similar pinnacle!
