Hull managed just three shots on goal the entire day, but scored on two of them, whereas Arsenal were unable to capitalize on all their possession.

It all started so promising. Arsenal were great at the opening, peppering the Hull goal with a number of shots. Alexis Sanchez finally scored the opener, a great individual effort creating space for himself.

Shortly after the wheels came off, courtesy of the referee, who it must be said, was one of the worst Arsenal have had in awhile.

Diame made a mazy run, Flamini cut him off, but he hogtied the Gunner around the neck and surged past to score the equalizer.

Arsenal never quite recovered their dominance and went into the dressing room even.

All got a lot worse after the second half began. Abel Hernandez attacked a cross ahead of a ponderous Mertesacker and Hull were ahead.

The rest of the half saw Hull fall back and Arsenal attack. The Gunners were unable to pry the Hull goal open until extra time began. Sanchez wove his way into the box and found Wellbeck, who scored the equalizer.

Arsenal were unable to claim a winner in the end and now sit further back in the race for the title.

Player Ratings:

Szczesny 5.  Could he have done better on the first goal? Probably. On the second? Doubtful. All I know is that he’s not winning us games right now.

Bellerin 6.  He could have offered a little more coming forward than he did. Made one or two poor crosses and one good one.

Mertesacker  5.  Allowed Abel Hernandez to get to the header first and put Hull ahead. Other than that he played okay.

Monreal 6.  He was reasonably solid and Hull failed to put him to the test. He made a nice cross in the second half that Sanchez headed over the bar.

Gibbs  6.  He saw lots of the ball but he was unable to do anything substantial with it. He had a chance to win the game at the end, but his shot was at the goalkeeper.

Flamini  6.  Will remember this game for being hauled down by Diame, but he played well.

Wilshere 6.  Lots of effort, but he was unable to pry open the Hull defence. Went off injured in the second half.

Cazorla 6.  He too was heavily involved and he had several shots, most of them blocked. His corner kicks seldom found their mark and Arsenal have to improve in this area.

Oxlade-Chamberlain  6.  He was excellent in the first half, but struggled in the second, often trying to force things, including a couple of wild shots.

Welbeck  6.  Finally delivered the equalizer at the end. He worked hard, but had little reward to show.

Sanchez  8.  Scored the first and set up the second. Both of these showed class. He narrowly headed over the bar in the second half. He hustled and he never gave up.

Substitutes:

Ramsey 5.  He was unable to make much of an impact on the match.

Campbell  7.  Joel had an excellent cameo, showing a number of neat touches of skill and creating a couple of chances.
